Volkswagen Middle East shifts its focus to digitalisation in 2017 to enhance customer experiences with the brand. The relaunch of Das WeltAuto - its website for pre-owned cars, forms a key part of the drive to upgrade the digital aspects of the business in response to the rapidly changing industry.
The announcement comes following the successful launch of the Volksbot in partnership with Twitter and Brndstr last month, complementing the brand’s initiatives to provide world-class services to its customers through innovation.
The new Das WeltAuto website is interactive and user friendly with features making it simple to request calls-to-action, such as customer call-back, test drive booking, car valuation, and price alerts with updates on car prices. The wesbite is fully responsive on all platforms including smart phones, tablets and desktop computers, with a separate high-performance website to be launched in May 2017, dedicated solely to Golf GTI & Golf R models.
“Our focus in 2017 is to digitalise our business and enhance the Volkswagen brand in the region to ensure every element – from our products to our operations and services – is more customer focused than ever before. This is a long-term strategy through which we aim to achieve sustainable, long-lasting success, that results in lifetime customers in the Middle East,” commented Andrew Savvas, Director Volkswagen Middle East.
The Das WeltAuto lists all available pre-owned cars available locally and is more interactive than its predecessor by allowing the set-up of landing pages that can be used directly with Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Regional advertising unique to each country is also a new feature to the site, refining the customer experience further through providing localized content.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport races ahead of competition in 2017, bagging three prestigious industry awards in the first quarter of this year. Recently awarded ‘Best Performance Hatchback’ at the fourth annual Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) awards, the anniversary edition of the iconic hatchback has impressed judges with its dynamism, power and performance.
Claiming the much sought-after title of ‘Best Hot Hatch’ from the region’s largest independent automotive awards - Wheels Car of the Year 2017, in addition to ‘Hot Hatch of the Year’ from sports car aficionado magazine - EVO Middle East, the most powerful production GTI ever has consistently been recongised for its unmatched motorsport performance, powerful traction, superior ride comfort and every-day practicality.
“The Golf GTI Clubsport is in a class of its own – its enhanced performance and design, coupled with the attributes of the iconic hatchback offer a sporty addition to the Golf model line-up and make it a stand out competitor for the coveted titles. The limited edition model has received a remarkable response from press and customers since its arrival in the market, and we are honoured that it has received the recognition it truly deserves from such prestigious publications and Awarding Body,” commented Andrew Savvas, Regional Director, Volkswagen Middle East.
The 40th anniversary edition of the Golf GTI has a potent 265 hp turbocharged direct injection four-cylinder engine and keeping with GTI tradition, the Clubsport is front-wheel drive. The design, equipment and aerodynamic fine-tuning of the model have been extensively revamped to give the Clubsport pioneering handling capabilities at high speeds. Due to motorsport technology creating additional downforce, the car can also reach breathtaking cornering speeds, which elevates the GTI hatchback to the domain of top-class motorsport.
Available as both a manual and with a dual-clutch gearbox, it also features a completely new front bumper, side sills, rear diffuser, multi-part roof spoiler and exclusive forged alloy wheels, making the anniversary model a unique version of the cult classic that can immediately be identified amongst its peers. The motor-racing equipment ensures that a more dynamic and sporty feel can be experienced throughout the entire vehicle.

The first-of-its-kind gathering for Volkswagen in the region saw classic, limited edition and production Volkswagen models take part in a 150 car convoy around Dubai, before converging at the Dubai Autodrome for track laps and a wider celebration of the cars. Ahead of the gathering, many of the drivers from Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia had driven 1000s of kilometres directly from their home countries to participate in the event.
“This gathering is evidence of our dedication to our customers in the region through our extensive dealer network. We thrive on customer satisfaction; delivering Volkswagen brand events that excite our customers are essential to push us to better serve our customers. The turnout at our first event has been outstanding, and we are planning bigger and better things for next year’s event,” Andrew Savvas, Brand Director, Volkswagen Middle East.
Golf GTI owner, Hamad Al-Hajry from Oman said: “I have been a member of my local Volkswagen car team for over four years, and this is the first time that I have travelled outside of Oman to participate in an event of this scale. I would like to thank Volkswagen Middle East and the team organisers for the support and allowing me to be a part of such a unique and extraordinary event.”
Organizers from the worlds biggest Volkswagen Clubs attended the event, with the intention of connecting fans worldwide.
