The permanent all-wheel drive 4MOTION distributes engine force across all four wheels depending on requirements. In serial models with a longitudinal mounted engine, a Torsen differential ensures distribution of drive forces to the front and rear axle. In standard vehicles with a transverse engine, the all-wheel drive coupling is used.
In all of our serial models, 4MOTION offers high levels of active safety, reliable traction on practically any surface and the best on-centre handling at all times – even in side winds. The system is vastly superior to activated all-wheel drives thanks to the ‘permanent safety advantage’. 4MOTION can also be combined with all driving dynamics control systems such as Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control System (TCS), Engine Braking Control (EBC) and electronic differential lock.
In the Polo WRC with 4MOTION, a 4MOTION system optimised for rally driving is used. The Polo WRC’s permanent all-wheel drive with rigid transmission shaft between the front and rear axle is combined with multi-disc locking differentials on the front and rear axle – 4MOTION: world champion technology.
